Scope: This is a quick analysis of selected accounts that we manage, not all accounts or the whole market.
Analysis period: 90 days of analysis. Year-on-year comparisons use the same 90-day period in the previous year.
The story in one paragraph
Some campaigns whisper. These ones filled a stadium, every day, for 90 days. A client in the auctions business ran Demand Gen campaigns that delivered around 30 million impressions in a single quarter. The easy part of that story is the scale. The good part is what happened to the quality of the attention: clicks more than doubled year on year, and the click-through rate more than doubled with them. Scale and relevance grew together, and that combination is the whole story.
The short answer
This is a quick analysis of selected accounts that we manage. For a client running Demand Gen campaigns, clicks rose 106 percent in 90 days of analysis, compared with the same 90-day period in the previous year, from around 668,000 to around 1.37 million. Click-through rate rose 113 percent, from 2.14 percent to 4.56 percent, and the cost of each click fell by close to half, on around 30.1 million impressions.
Act one: reach is cheap, attention is not
Demand Gen reaches people in discovery mode, on YouTube, Discover and Gmail, before they search for anything. Most advertisers use it as a billboard and judge it on impressions, which is why most Demand Gen reporting is a big number and a shrug.
Impressions were never the point for this client. Auctions run on a calendar: stock comes in, viewing days open, sale day lands, and the room, physical or online, needs bidders in it. The job of the campaigns was to turn discovery into visits, registrations and sale day traffic, repeatedly, every week of the quarter.
Act two: what changed in the campaigns
The creative and audience work was tightened in steady passes through the quarter: stronger visuals for the stock people actually bid on, audiences built around buying behaviour rather than broad interests, and budget following the auction calendar instead of running flat.
The data shows the effect plainly. Impressions held roughly level with the year before, slightly down, in fact. But where the year before roughly 2 in every 100 people who saw an ad clicked it, this year more than 4 in every 100 did. The audience did not get bigger. It got more interested, and interest is what an auction business banks.
When CTR doubles and cost per click halves at the same time, the same budget buys two things at once: more visits, and cheaper visits. That is the arithmetic behind clicks rising 106 percent without the story being about a budget explosion.
Act three: why this matters beyond auctions
Every business with a recurring event, a sale, a launch, a season, a monthly special, has the same shape of problem as an auction house: attention must peak at the right moment, not spread evenly across the calendar.
Demand Gen, run as a relevance campaign rather than a billboard, is built for that shape. This quarter's data, around 30 million impressions converting into around 1.37 million clicks at a 4.56 percent CTR, is what it looks like when the format is worked properly.
It is also why these accounts sit inside Seria's regular syncs and briefs. A campaign moving this much traffic gets checked while it runs, so the passes that doubled its CTR are noticed, repeated and built on, instead of being lost as a lucky month.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good CTR for Demand Gen campaigns?
This client achieved 4.56 percent for the quarter, up from 2.14 percent the year before. Discovery formats usually run lower than Search, which is exactly why a doubling matters: it shows the creative and audience fit improving, not the format changing.
How did clicks double without impressions doubling?
Impressions were roughly flat year on year. The click-through rate rose 113 percent, so the same audience size produced twice the clicks, and the cost per click fell by close to half.
Is Demand Gen only for big brands?
No. It is for any business whose buyers discover before they search. The discipline is the same at any scale: creative built for the stock or offer people want, audiences built on behaviour, and budget matched to the moments that matter.
What role does Seria play here?
These accounts are enabled for Seria's regular syncs and briefs, and the data is checked through Seria for Google, so performance movements are seen and acted on during the quarter, not after it.
